LPG and research
Since Liquified Petroleum Gas was introduced in North America as a commercial fuel gas energy source shortly before the first World War, the hazards associated with its use have proven confusing to many especially to consumers, insurers and public safety regulators not familiar with its technology. Research specifically on safety played a major role in developing new appliances.
Any new development should be presented to the SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL STANDARDS (www.stansa.co.za) or to the LIQUIFIED PETROLEUM GAS ASSOCIATION for testing and evaluating. The LPG Association in The Liquified Petroleum Gas Association of Southern Africa is the organization representing many companies that are involved in the refining, distribution and retailing of LPGas and gas appliances.
This organization is dedicated to the safe use of LPGas across The LPGASA works very closely with the various Fire Departments in controlling and approving all LPGas sites. It also consults with the SABS concerning all Standards and Codes of Practice pertaining to the industry.
